A poetry generator, the outputs of which are encoded into a matrix of Truchet tiles. The shifting colours represent the underlying sequences of binary values, as well as suggesting a flowing ‘waterfall’ of data. Bitstream is a kinetic variation of the Solid State Poetry series, concerning the ways that digital systems sense and interpret the world, and our acts of communication using them.

The vocabulary for the poems are derived from short excerpts from classical haikus, a form often pursued by early poetry generation systems, and offering a contrast between the intensities of the machinic world, and elemental meditations on water, wind, dust, and the seasons.
